AIDA 2* Freediver
This is AIDA's beginner freediver course. For that reason, it's probably the most challenging and rewarding AIDA course.
Provided that you are already confident in the water, this course is your starting point.
The course builds a foundation of good technique and safety so that you can buddy with other AIDA 2* freedivers.
The course is split into two sections...
First, you'll complete AIDA 2* Pool Freediver.
This consists of two theory sessions (which usually run together in one day), followed by a dynamic pool session, a static pool session and an exam.
Exact timings depend on pool availability, but typically, I run the classroom session from 10.30 till 16.00, followed by a pool session from 17.00 till 18.30 on a Saturday, and then the exam and pool session from 16.00 till 18.30 on a Sunday.
To successfully complete the AIDA 2* pool freediver course, you will have to perform a minimum 2 minute breathold and swim 40m underwater with fins. Don't worry if you don't achieve the performances during the course pool sessions.... You can come along to one of our regular pool sessions and have another try. Beyond this, you can book some 1-2-1 coaching.
Once you have completed this, you can go on to do a further three open water dives (where you will build up to diving 16m in open water), and qualify as a full 2* Freediver (please note that I am only training the pool and theory sessions currently).
Costs
AIDA 2* Pool Freediver costs £130. This includes your course notes, use of equipment during the course (except wetsuits), pool fees, certification with AIDA and your qualification card.
You can pay cash, paypal, or cheque. A deposit of £50 secures your place on a course.
When it comes to completing the full AIDA 2* (which covers the open water/depth stuff), you can arrange this with Apneists UK (of course, I can arrange this for you) and then you simply pay the additional £130 to finish the course off.
